Mentorship Committee

Our Mission

The Dental APPNA Mentorship Committee is committed to empowering the next generation of dental professionals by providing meaningful guidance, unwavering support, and impactful resources.

Our mission is to nurture the success of mentees, particularly foreign-trained dentists preparing for dental school and students aspiring to pursue dentistry, helping them navigate academic, professional, and career pathways with confidence.

Key Objectives

Personalized Guidance

We offer one-on-one mentorship tailored to

  • Foreign-trained dentists seeking admission to dental schools in North America.
  • High school and college students aiming to pursue dentistry and needing academic/career guidance.
  • Early-career dentists looking to grow clinically, develop business skills, or explore alternative dental career paths.

Observership Opportunities

We maintain a growing national network of dentists and dental schools who offer observership and shadowing experiences to our mentees. These opportunities provide valuable clinical exposure and help strengthen their understanding of dentistry in North America.

Mentee Success Support

We support mentees academically and professionally to help them:
  • Strengthen dental school applications
  • Gain relevant exposure
  • Transition successfully into dental programs and the profession

Mentor–Mentee Matching Process

The committee matches mentees with mentors based on individual needs, goals, and mentor expertise. Once a match is established, an introductory email is sent to both mentor and mentee, including brief bios, expectations for the first meeting, guidelines, and helpful resources. A 1-month check-in is conducted to ensure the mentorship is progressing smoothly, and ongoing feedback is collected regularly to support continuous program improvement.
